DuraFlex Crown Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Crown Repair: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

DuraFlex crown repair in Fort Worth typically runs $340-$580 installed, depending on flue diameter and whether the surrounding masonry needs repointing. We stock DuraFlex-compatible crown repair kits on every truck, and most replacements are completed in a single visit. Most Fort Worth homeowners discover the problem during a routine sweep or after spotting fresh water stains on the firebox wall following a hard rain.

Call (682) 499-2712

Corrine Halstead, our owner, sees this call most often in neighborhoods like Mistletoe Heights and Berkeley Place, where the original DuraFlex liners went in during the 2010-2018 remodeling wave and the crown sealant is now hitting its ten-year mark. The camera doesn’t lie - and neither does the written estimate.

Which DuraFlex Models This Applies To

DuraFlex crowns are not universal. The repair kit must match your liner series: DuraFlex SW (stainless wall) uses a 5/8-inch crown base with a tapered silicone compression seal, while DuraFlex HT (high temperature) and DuraFlex Pro require a wider 7/8-inch base to accommodate the thicker insulation layer. Check the stamped band near the top termination - “SW-316” or “HT-316” tells you which series you’re working with.

We carry both OEM DuraFlex crown assemblies and aftermarket equivalents from Olympia Chimney that meet the same 2100°F rating. The aftermarket option saves roughly $60-$90 on parts, but we only spec it when the flue diameter and insulation thickness match exactly. A 6-inch SW crown forced onto an HT liner leaves a gap that channels rainwater straight to the mortar bed. We’ve had to redo three of these in Fort Worth after other crews mixed up the spec.

If your label is worn off, we measure the flue ID and insulation wrap thickness on-site before ordering anything. That’s standard on every Level Two visit - no guesswork, no return trips for wrong parts.

Signs Your DuraFlex Crown Repair Is Failing

Signs Your DuraFlex Crown Repair Is Failing
  • Water staining on the firebox walls or smoke chamber. The crown’s silicone seal has cracked or the metal base has corroded through, letting rainwater run down the flue liner instead of shedding to the roof. In Fort Worth, the clay-calcium content in our soil accelerates galvanic corrosion where dissimilar metals meet at the crown base.
  • White efflorescence blooming on the exterior brick surrounding the chimney top. This salt deposit means water is getting behind the crown and wicking through the masonry. The crown isn’t just leaking - it’s no longer bonded to the flue tile or liner, creating a path for moisture to saturate the chimney structure.
  • Visible gaps or separation between the crown metal and the flue liner termination. Thermal cycling in Texas summers (120°F surface temps are routine on Fort Worth roofs) hardens the silicone sealant until it crumbles. Once the gap exceeds 1/8 inch, wind-driven rain enters freely.
  • Rust streaks running down the chimney exterior from the cap or shroud. The crown assembly includes a metal base ring; when that ring fails, water reaches the steel flue liner or the galvanized cap hardware. Rust is a secondary symptom, but it confirms the crown is no longer the waterproof barrier it was designed to be.
  • Draft problems or smoky fireplace performance after rain. Water in the flue displaces air and disrupts the pressure differential that pulls smoke upward. If your fireplace only misbehaves when it’s wet outside, the crown is the first place we look with the camera.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range
DuraFlex crown repair kit (OEM), labor, sealant $340-$450
Crown repair + minor masonry repointing (up to 4 sq ft) $450-$580
Crown repair + full crown rebuild (concrete pour) $680-$940

What drives the range: flue diameter (6-inch vs. 8-inch parts differ in cost), accessibility (steep pitch or two-story stack adds setup time), and whether the existing crown base has corroded into the flue tile. We photograph everything before quoting. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard requires a written price, written scope, and written warranty before any work starts - you’ll have all three on paper before we unpack a tool.

The repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the seal fails or water returns, we come back and make it right. Materials are sourced through our Haven buying network from DuraFlex, Olympia Chimney, and Famco - no markup games.

Here’s what you can safely check yourself: look at the crown from the ground with binoculars for visible gaps, rust streaks, or missing sealant. Note your flue diameter and any model stamping. That’s the limit of safe homeowner inspection.

Here’s where DIY goes wrong: the crown sits at height, on a hot roof, next to a live flue that may still contain combustible deposits. Removing the old sealant requires scraping near the flue liner termination - one slip and you’ve damaged the liner itself, turning a $400 crown repair into a $2,800 liner replacement. The silicone compression seal must be torqued to manufacturer spec; too loose and it leaks, too tight and it deforms the liner collar. We don’t recommend owner installation. Our background-checked, uniformed technicians carry the right torque drivers and have the ladder setup dialed for Fort Worth’s tile and composite roofs.
