A Level company - serving Fort Worth, TX

Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown in Fort Worth: What to Know First

We provide independent Gelco chimney cap and crown service across Fort Worth, from the Cultural District to Wedgwood and beyond. Most Gelco cap replacements and crown repairs are completed in a single visit, and every job starts with a written price on paper before any work begins - no surprises, no post-work invoice shock. If you’re seeing rust streaks on your chimney or water pooling in your firebox, the cap or crown is usually the culprit, and we’ll show you exactly what’s wrong with a camera-down inspection and photo record.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Gelco Model A stainless caps: lid separation at the weld seam. The Model A’s stamped lid attaches to the mesh skirt with a single continuous weld, and after five to seven Fort Worth summers of thermal cycling - 100-degree days dropping to 60-degree nights - that weld cracks. Water gets in, rusts the mesh from the inside out, and suddenly you’ve got a cap that looks fine from the yard but funnels rain straight down the flue. We pull the cap, document the weld failure with photos, and either re-weld with 308L filler on-site or source a replacement through Haven’s buying network if the corrosion is too advanced.
  • Gelco Multi-Flue caps: incorrect overhang on Fort Worth’s older clay flue pots. The Multi-Flue line ships with standard 2-inch overhangs, but many homes near TCU and Berkeley Place have oversized clay flue pots from the 1970s that need 3-inch overhang minimum to shed water past the crown edge. A cap that fits the flue but not the crown drips water onto the crown surface, accelerating spalling. We measure the flue pot and crown overhang separately - two numbers, not one - and either spec the correct Gelco overhang or fabricate a custom extension from galvanized steel if Gelco doesn’t stock the size.
  • Gelco Model C copper caps: galvanic corrosion at the stainless base ring. Copper and stainless don’t play well long-term, especially where Fort Worth’s alkaline clay soils create slightly basic rainwater runoff that accelerates galvanic reaction. The copper lid outlasts the base, but the base ring is what seals to the flue. We see this most on homes with copper caps installed 8-12 years ago in Rivercrest and Mistletoe Heights. Our fix: replace the base ring with a monel alloy transition piece that breaks the galvanic couple, or switch to a full stainless cap if the copper aesthetic isn’t worth the maintenance cycle.
  • Gelco crown sealant: UV degradation on south-facing chimneys. Gelco’s crown coating is a cementitious product, not elastomeric, and it doesn’t flex with crown movement. On south-facing chimneys in Fort Worth, UV exposure hardens the surface layer in 18-24 months, then thermal cycling cracks it. The coating looks intact but has lost adhesion underneath. We remove it entirely, not just re-coat, then apply HeatShield CrownCoat with its built-in flexibility additive - or pour a new crown if the structural cracks run deeper than 1/4 inch.
  • Gelco wind band attachments: clip fatigue in open prairie exposure. The wind band on Gelco’s wind-resistant caps secures with spring clips that fatigue after repeated gust loading. Homes west of downtown Fort Worth, toward White Settlement and beyond, catch unobstructed prairie wind that cycles those clips hundreds of times per storm season. We replace the clips with through-bolted stainless straps, or spec the Gelco wind band with the upgraded bolt-down kit if the customer wants to stay OEM.

Our Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Our Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers, day or night. We ask for the Gelco model if you know it, the installation year if you have it, and what you’re seeing - rust, water, animal intrusion, or draft problems.
  2. 2
NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection on arrival. Our tech runs a camera down the flue before touching the cap or crown. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a photo record on every job, and we need baseline documentation of any water damage inside before we quote.
  3. 3
Written price, written scope, written warranty. Before any tool comes out, you get a single page with the diagnosis, the fix, the parts source (OEM Gelco or quality aftermarket), and the total cost. Haven Standard Clause 1: have it in writing.
  4. 4
Parts decision with full disclosure. If Gelco still stocks the exact part, we’ll use it and show you the part number. If Gelco discontinued the line - the Model B mesh cap, for example, phased out in 2019 - we source equivalent-grade stainless through our Haven buying network from Olympia Chimney or Famco, with the same gauge and mesh spec, and we tell you exactly what changed and why.
  5. 5
Repair and real-time documentation. The tech photographs each stage: old cap removal, crown condition exposed, any flue damage found, new cap seated, wind band torque-checked. These photos go into your record along with the written warranty.
  6. 6
365-Day Done Right Promise activation. If water gets past our cap or crown work within a year, we come back and make it right. The promise is stamped on every job, no claim forms, no runaround.

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Fort Worth for Gelco Work

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Fort Worth for Gelco Work

We’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and a healthy slice of those have been Gelco caps in Fort Worth neighborhoods where the brand was popular from the late 1990s through the mid-2010s. Corrine Halstead learned the trade in New York before running crews here for the better part of two decades, and she’s particular about documentation - the camera doesn’t lie, and neither does the written estimate. Our techs are background-checked, uniformed, and named on your appointment text, not random subcontractors. If Gelco doesn’t make the part anymore, we’ve got relationships with DuraFlex, HeatShield, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield through Haven’s buying network, so you’re not held hostage to a discontinued SKU. Every visit includes a camera-scan inspection and documented photo record under Haven Standard Clause 4, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise means we fix our mistakes free - though we prefer not to make them in the first place.
